Before you file for bankruptcy, you may need to go through another phase counseling from an accredited credit counselor or counseling organization. As per the directives of the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act (2005), any individual filing for bankruptcy must go through this session (except in certain circumstances). The Department of Justices U.S. Trustee Program is responsible for approving these counselors/counseling centers.
